During the event, which is set for Thursday, Feb. 18, participating businesses will give 4 percent of their day’s profits to groups helping to educate, engage and empower the growing Austin community, the group said in a news release.
“The Hispanic Alliance is excited to bring East4East to life as our first dedicated East Austin initiative,” Diana Resnik, the Hispanic Alliance’s executive director, said in the release. “East Austin is a vibrant and culturally rich community, which both established and new businesses are proud to support. Rallying participation has been incredibly easy once businesses learn about the opportunity. We look forward to many more events.”
The event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Chalmers Court, the Workers Defense Project, Austin Soundwavesand EmprendedorU.
Proceeds will also help purchase musical instruments for Title I schools in East Austin, support a series of free Spanish-language business seminars for aspiring entrepreneurs and extend training programs for workers to ensure workplace safety. The Hispanic Alliance is a nonprofit whose goal is to empower Austin’s Hispanic community through arts and education as well as entrepreneurship training.
